Supervisory Park Ranger (Interpretation)

This position is duty stationed at Flight 93 National Memorial in Stoystown, PA and is supervised by the Superintendent of the Western Pennsylvania Group of Parks. Major Duties include:
-This position serves as a first-level supervisor. -This position involves writing general agreement for a Student Conservation Association (SCA) positions and screening, hiring, and training SCA position candidate every year. -Oversees the operation of the primary Visitor Center, the Memorial Plaza/Visitor Shelter, Crash site and Wall of Names, a Learning Center/Educational Classroom and the Tower of Voices and Headquarters Building. -Partners with Friends of Flight 93 to ensure goals are met and work plans are identified and carried out. -Exercises administrative and technical supervision over assigned staff. -Plans work, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, prepares deadlines and schedules for completion by subordinate staff. -Regularly audits individual interpretive programs and evaluates the overall interpreter visitor programs presented to ensure accomplishment of short- and long-term goals. -Provides advice, counsel, expertise and instruction on interpretive operations and administrative matters. -Manages and develops interpretive programming utilizing audience centered principles and practices. -Initiates new projects and new topics/themes for interpretative programming. -Independently determines appropriate techniques and procedures for resolving conflict among divisions. -Serves as spokesperson for the memorial, both on-site and off-site. -Develops distance learning program to meet educational needs of students throughout the world. -Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work with the ultimate goal being to enhance visitors' experiences and customer service. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as:
1)Supervise, direction, management, review, planning, execution and coordination of all Interpretation, Education and Visitors operations; 2)Personal and non-personal interpretative services and activities, including cultural and natural resource management; 3) Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others; 4) Develops new policies, sets annual goals and provides innovative solutions to interpretative challenges; 5) Knowledge of current educational core standards and initiatives; 6) Knowledge of operational park planning and administrative processes in order to effectively manage and administer budgets, contracts and personnel; 7) Ability to effectively communicate in writing in a wide variety of writing style and formats; 8) Ability to effectively communicate orally with a wide variety of audiences; 9) Ability to learn and effectively use a myriad of government software systems. You must include hours per week worked, work schedule, FT or PT, months/years of each time period of experience. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least three full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education, a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a directly-related field such as natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archaeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. Course work in fields other than those specified above may be accepted if it clearly provides applicants with the background of knowledge and skills necessary for successful job performance in this position. Experience:
Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards a graduate degree, in excess of 36 semester hours, and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Volunteer
